Back to Roots: Revisiting Our 100-year Legacy in India

As Bosch India’s centenary year celebrations draw to a close, we returned to where our illustrious journey began – in Calcutta (now Kolkata). We looked back at the first sales agency we established in 1922, which laid the foundation for an illustrious growth spanning 16 manufacturing sites and 7 development and application centres, employing 30,500 associates. To honour this incredible 100-year journey and set precedence for the next 100 years, we celebrated the Back to Roots event.

The celebrations were kickstarted by the senior leadership of Bosch India, followed by the inauguration of the plaque that marks the Bosch India Kolkata building as a heritage site. We also planted saplings to highlight our commitment to sustainability.

The event was an opportunity to engage with key customers, dealers and suppliers for our Beyond Mobility business units like Bosch Automotive Aftermarket, Bosch Power Tools, Bosch Building Technologies, Bosch Rexroth, Bosch Global Software Technologies & Bosch Home Appliances. It also enabled us to connect with premier educational institutions from the region to help hire top talent from the region. We established a “Technology Marketplace” to showcase our achievements in Beyond Mobility and CSR activities.

This year also marked 10 years of Bosch’s Response to India’s Development and Growth through Employability Enhancement (BRIDGE) program. This short-term, job-oriented training program helps empower the youth to find gainful employment in India’s growing service sectors. Spread across 750+ training centres, this 3-month program has helped 50,000+ youth to benefit from Bosch’s 60+ years of vocational training experience over the past decade. This program has received accolades and recognition from premier bodies in India, including FICCI CSR Award and the NHRD CSR Best Practice award.

To commemorate this milestone, we launched the book, BRIDGE: A decade of Promoting Employability Through Skilling, which showcases the sustained skilling interventions undertaken by the BRIDGE program. We also unveiled the book 100 Stories of Change, which highlighted Bosch India’s social interventions that have made a positive impact on our communities.

The event also gave us an opportunity to highlight our plans for the future

  • An increased focus on localization and sustainability to make Bosch products and services accessible to all
  • Launch a strong pipeline of cordless power tools to boost our localization share to 30% by 2023
  • Bosch Rexroth is championing the example of a futuristic factory on the back of strong IoT expertise
  • Commitment to plant 100,000 saplings by March 2023
  • Expand our multi-brand car service centres to over 1,000 locations by 2025 and a network strength of approx. 4000 outlets by 2027
  • Achieve 75% localization by 2025 in the consumer market by strengthening the manufacturing capacity of BSH
  • Shaping the new era of mobility by creating a futuristic digital ecosystem for multi-brand workshops
